Poppa's little girl :)

Well, my family have a new arrival; a Morkie. She has no name (feel free to send one along) but has definitely made her self at home. After only a day, she has made sure that there are no critters renting for free in her garden and grass. She has definitely let pops know that she is a daddy's girl. But with momma giving her a little chicken soup to help her stomach settle down after a day of feeling down, she is playing her cards a little.

2010 JRTCC Trials, Paris Ontario

As the official Jack Russell Terrier Club of Canada photographer, I had the pleasure of capturing this years "Trials" in Paris, Ontario. Russell owners and lovers gather for this event once a year, from all of north America. This three day event was, as always, full of energy and competitive spirit. From start to finish, this was by far the most exciting pet lover event I had photographed in some time. All proceeds raised from my photography go to the JRTCC and Russell Rescue for the betterment of Russells all over. For those outside of the JRTCC and Russell Rescue, go to my home page (www.johnspetphotography.com) and click on JRTCC Trials at the bottom. There you will find the images that you can purchase at $5 per image through the JRTCC. They will be retouched and cropped. I look forward to the next JRTCC event...see you there :)

Winston and Webster- The "Dynamic Duo"

These two were a riot. All fun in the sun and tonnes of energy. It was very evident from the start of the family pet photo session that I would be chasing these guys down the entire time. Dan and Toni let their boys loose and Winston and Webster started what seemed like usual play to them. Chasing tails, biting and bullying each other the entire time. They even made a few new friends during the photo session. A young golden retriever joined in the action and teased the boys a little. Then, as they usually do, she took off and left them wanting more. I enjoyed their enthusiasm and character very much and look forward to their next family pet photo session.

2010 Wiggle-Waggle Walk-a-thon

As you know, 'John's Pet Photography' is the official photographer for the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA and was present at the Wiggle-Waggle to capture images of the festivities. As well, 'Johns Pet Photography' raised $427 for the HBSPCA with the help of generous walker's who received a FREE family pet portrait for any size donation, even a dollar! I am so excited and planning next years Wiggle-Waggle already where we will easily blast through the $1,000 mark with the returning walkers and the first timers.

Kitten with out a name

I frequently photograph family pets before they actually have a name, as is with this little feline. He is a farm boy and full of curiosity and energy. At times I am told he is a little menace, and others he is a jewel. During his family pet photo session he was at peace with my camera and had no problem being the center of attention. Ron said that he is more like a guard cat, than a kitten. Apparently he does not take kind to strangers, especially rodents with long tails. If you think you have the perfect name for him, pass it along...he may still be nameless.

Rosie the 'Rose Breasted Cockatoo'

My clients that know me best, realize that I have a really soft spot for birds. With Rosie, this is no exception. While out and about during her family pet photo session, Rosie had to make what appeared to be a very thoughtful and tough decision...walk or fly! This dilemma had plagued winged friends since the beginning of time. After a few moments of careful consideration she chose to walk over the gap instead of fly over it. We are happy to say she made it across fine and was not injured during this stunt. She did however have to fly shortly after. So without hesitation, she jumped to the ground with a few flaps of her wings and went on an adventure throughout the property...and I followed.

Thanks for the fun experience Rosie and you are welcome at my place any time you like :)

Simon and Megan- The Dynamic Duo

Simon and Megan you are so adorable. And the seven high-resolution digital files and seven 8x10's that adorn Patti's wall is a testament to how much she loves you. Patti assured me that Simon and Megan are not dogs, they are family. Luckily, she has the same view as all of my clientele. Although Simon was on the quite side his personality came out when we left the studio for an on location session. He was not as fast at Megan, but he was definitely spunky. His gentle smile and loving eyes reminded me of Heidi, my golden retriever of 17 years and 7 weeks that we sent to Rainbow Bridge on July 2nd of this year. Simon was clearly a momma's boy and was awaiting Patti's direction at every moment. And of course, high quality treats always followed shortly after. There was a little more pressure for Simon's studio portraits. Patti had taken him elsewhere to get portraits 3 years back, and she was not happy with them and never purchased any. Luckily, I specialize in family pet photography and Patti was relieved to say the least.

Megan, (much smaller but clearly more dynamic) was all energy. In studio she was darling and was so photogenic that almost every moment was perfect. It was almost like she was a starlit from the golden era of film...awaiting her powder and make-up. On location she was anything but a starlit from the 50's. She became a 100 meter short track sprinter. I photograph several on location pets a month and she was by far one the most graceful in recent memory. Luckily my camera was up to the task and could keep up with her, barely. When I printed to 8x10's, I felt like keeping them for myself they were so beautiful. However, Patti was awaiting them and I delivered them personally as I always. She loved them as much has I did and I am sure Simon and Megan will enjoy seeing themselves for many years to come.

Bella's babies

Yes Bella, I am finally posting your babies...all four of them. When Bella gave birth to her four little ones, I was finally able to capture their little tiny bodies through my lens. Jenny and Bill had been waiting months for their arrival and were delighted to finally see them. When the news came that the little bumps from her stomach had arrived, I came running. It was fun to photograph them in the living room, eyes still closed. But, it was exhilarating to photograph them when they could run..WOW! Spending an hour with Max, Angel, Gracie and Sandy was a photo session I will not soon forget.

By the end of the hour, we were all exhausted (except the puppies). And as usual, there were countless moments that will live on forever in their pet album and on the their wall. Although Max and Gracie found new homes, we will never forget their cute smiles, soft fur and pleasant personalities.

Bosco the 'Copy Dog'

It is very difficult to blog and post about every family pet I capture portraits of since I am always photographing them. But I will post a few this week starting with Bosco "The Copy Dog". When I was asked by Tom to photograph his little gentleman a few weeks ago, I was so excited. During the day, Bosco is a mild mannered mascot for 'Copy Dog', a print/copy center located on 167 James Street North, here in Hamilton. What does Bosco do you may ask...he makes copies!!! He also spends a lot of his time playing with his stuff animal named Monkey. However, when the doors close, he is a completely different young man of 7 months. The first 20 minutes of his on location photo session entailed flipping and spinning on the grass; we had to stop him in fear he would rub off his fur.

From there we visited several locations in the park and filled several cards full of memories. Although you can find some of his portraits at Copy Dog on their wall, one is on loan to Bosco's favorite pub, "The Brain" also located on James Street North. Bosco is a favorite customer of theirs and I actually had a chance to sit with him and bark over a few beers yesterday..really, he does hang out there. That being said, I look forward to his upcoming studio session and many more years of Bosco, "The Copy Dog".
